When geostructural projects face distress or dispute, the issues are almost never simple. They often involve complex soil behavior, construction methods, and design interpretation. My role is to make those issues clear and defensible.
I serve as an expert witness and litigation support consultant on geostructural projects across the U.S., with specialized expertise in aggregate piers, rigid inclusions, vibro replacement, soil mixing, micropiles, helical piles, and earth retention systems. My work focuses on forensic analysis, technical evaluation, and testimony related to design adequacy, construction performance, and standard-of-care compliance.
As President and Principal Engineer of Garbin GeoStructural Group, LLC, I bring over two decades of post-licensure experience in geotechnical and structural engineering and more than 30 years of combined experience in both engineering and construction. My career began as a laborer for a general contractor in New Jersey, where I learned firsthand how design decisions play out in the field. That early field experience shaped how I approach engineering today, combining practical constructability with technical rigor.
I am a Board-Certified Geotechnical Engineer (D.GE), licensed in 40 states, and have been qualified and accepted as an expert in U.S. District Court, where I successfully defeated a Daubert motion in 2021. My background includes leading regional engineering for major specialty contractors such as Keller (formerly Hayward Baker) and Earth Tech, and teaching geotechnical & structural engineering as an adjunct professor at the University of South Florida.
Why clients choose me:
- Depth of specialization: My focus is entirely on geostructural systems and ground improvement technologies.
- Real-world perspective: I have worked both in the field and in design offices, giving me a clear understanding of how construction means and methods affect performance.
- Credible communication: I translate complex geotechnical issues into clear, defensible explanations that judges, juries, and attorneys can understand.
- Early-stage clarity: Many clients bring me in pre-litigation to identify failure mechanisms, clarify risk exposure, and develop defensible strategies before claims escalate.
When foundation or ground improvement systems do not perform as expected, understanding why is critical. I help clients find that answer accurately, objectively, and early.
